SonyEricsson P800 is announced in 2002
Design
SonyEricsson's P800 - one of few models from SonyEricsson featuring a more traditional candy bar design, the SonyEricsson P800 is very heavy and too big handset at 117 x 59 x 27 mm and 158 grams. The 4096-color display is dim, not very bright and crisp, but is a far step above the very dim 256-color versions on even the most recent SonyEricsson models. The display resolution 208 x 320 pixel ideal for small and smart phone.
The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker, while on the other side we find a dedicated camera button. Lacking LEDs of any kind, however, the display - combined with vibration and audible alerts - is the P800's only way of notifying users of new messages and missed calls. This is common for all SonyEricsson handsets, requiring users to inconveniently have to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting rather than just glance at it.
Ergonomics
The P800 is not comfortable for hold in ones hand because it is too wide.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent SonyEricsson handsets. The plastic keypad has good placed keys, giving it a cheap feel while oddly designed buttons, with the comfortable center keys, make the phone easer to dial. Its keypad is as pleasing in use as its chassis is on the eyes: tactile feedback is excellent and all buttons are placed in a logical manner - quite a feat, considering P800's knack for quirky keypads. What's more, the P910i frustratingly flops all around the place when using both thumbs to enter text, yielding a usability level best suited to very short messages. Thankfully, it's still possible to detach the flip entirely for those who prefer fully touch-based interaction.
Features
In the WAN department, the P800 boasts healthy support for Tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz, as well as HSCSD, GPRS, SMS, and a range of applications such as WAP , Email client, Java MIDP 1.0, 16-channels polyphony, a voice recorder, FAX/Modem, Loud Speaker, all of which laptop and handheld users will be pleased to learn is a breeze to utilize either by means of infrared old wireless device, bluetooth high speed small range wireless device.GPRS support is the fastest way to download files with your mobile, HSCSD support gives more speed when you browse with your mobile browser, and spacious phone book.
As previously mentioned, the P800 is also equipped with a 0.3 megapixel camera support for picture-taking , as well as an integrated MP3 player. The latter of which is also the reason for why the 0 MB of internal memory, which initially appears spacious, is quickly stretched to its limits. The P800 also comes with an Memory Stick Duo expansion slot located under its battery,a 16-128 MB card comes bundled in the sales package, more space for images audio and video files, less time for PC and communication cable for updating internal memory,
Performance
Audio quality on the P800 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 850 mAh Li-pol battery is rated for 13 hours talk time or 400 hours standby, which is very good for battery's theoretical capacity.Charge time is about 127 minutes.
Availability
The SonyEricsson P800 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.
Conclusion
SonyEricsson P800 is a beautiful phone to hold and use, and it's quickly won our hearts. The typical SonyEricsson design flair is present in abundance, with all the requisite consumer features to back it up.But love doesn't notice such little flaws. |
