MiTAC E688 is announced in 2004

Design

The E688 is an incredible looking handset, totally unique and, in our spot poll, a real object of lust for both sexes of all ages. Weighing in at 92 grams and measuring 97 x 46 x 32 mm, it's compact, while not featherweight. It's shorter and narrower than one would expect, and thicker, too, thanks to the unique design. The 16 bit - color display which is a little milky, dim and uneven, as well as having lower resolution than usual. The display resolution 128 x 160 pixel ideal for small and smart phone.

The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker. There is nice LEDs which notify users of new messages, active network and missed calls. This is not common for all MiTAC handsets and is not necessary to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting.

Ergonomics

The E688 is comfortable to hold and lies well in ones hand.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent MiTAC handsets. The plastic keypad has good placed keys, with the shrunken center keys for no apparent reason, make the phone harder to dial than necessary. And last, but not least, a four-way navigation buttons centered below the display.

Features

Dual band 900/1800 MHz connectivity isn't all the MiTAC E688 has to offer: there's also support for GPRS, SMS, and a range of applications such as WAP , Email client, Java MIDP 2.0, FAX/Modem, all of which laptop and handheld users will be pleased to learn is a breeze to utilize either by means of GPRS support is the fastest way to download files with your mobile, and spacious phone book..

Performance

Audio quality on the E688 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 650 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 4 hours talk time or 280 hours standby, which is very good for battery's theoretical capacity.Charge time is about 97 minutes.

Availability

The MiTAC E688 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.

Conclusion

MiTAC E688 is a beautiful phone to hold and use, and it's quickly won our hearts. The typical MiTAC design flair is present in abundance, with all the requisite consumer features to back it up.But love doesn't notice such little flaws.
