Maxon MX-7970 is announced in 2003

Design

Maxon MX-7970 handset is a distinctive-looking clamshell. Measures 90 x 46 x 23 mm in size and weighing 91 grams, it is light and feels very slender despite its size.A secound 64 x 48 pixel, 2 display dominates the front cover, and although not the clearest external display we've seen it is still quite functional. The 16 bit - color display which is a little milky, dim and uneven, as well as having lower resolution than usual. The display resolution 128 x 160 pixel ideal for small and smart phone.

The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker, while on the other side we find a dedicated camera button.
Lacking LEDs of any kind, however, the display - combined with vibration and audible alerts - is the MX-7970's only way of notifying users of new messages and missed calls. This is common for all Maxon handsets, requiring users to inconveniently have to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting rather than just glance at it.

Ergonomics

The MX-7970 is comfortable to hold and lies well in ones hand.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent Maxon handsets. The plastic keypad has very limited key travel and jiggles independently of the phone, with the shrunken center keys for no apparent reason, make the phone harder to dial than necessary. And last, but not least, a five-way navigation buttons centered below the display.

Features

Dual band 900/1800 MHz connectivity isn't all the Maxon MX-7970 has to offer: there's also support for GPRS, SMS, and a range of applications such as WAP , Java MIDP 1.0, FAX/Modem, all of which laptop and handheld users will be pleased to learn is a breeze to utilize either by means of GPRS support is the fastest way to download files with your mobile, and spacious phone book.

As previously mentioned, the MX-7970 is also equipped with a 0.1 megapixel camera support for picture-taking and when it comes to storage the MX-7970 offers 2 MB which is dynamically shared between images and J2ME applications.

Performance

Audio quality on the MX-7970 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 740 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 4 hours talk time or 100 hours standby, which is quite low given the battery's theoretical capacity. Charge time is about 111 minutes.

Availability

The Maxon MX-7970 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.

Conclusion

Maxon MX-7970 is a beautiful phone to hold and use, and it's quickly won our hearts. The typical Maxon design flair is present in abundance, with all the requisite consumer features to back it up.But love doesn't notice such little flaws.
