Haier PenPhone P6 is announced in 2004

Design

Having gained fresh wind in its sails over the course of the past year or so, Haier has certainly made its mark on phone sale hit lists recently, the Haier PenPhone P6 is a very slender and compact handset at 135 x 30 x 19 mm and 80 grams. The black and white display is ideal for text, messages and simple pictures like logos and picture massages. The display resolution 102 x 64 pixel is not very high but is normal for low class phone.

The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker. There is nice LEDs which notify users of new messages, active network and missed calls. This is not common for all Haier handsets and is not necessary to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting.

Ergonomics

The PenPhone P6 lies well in ones hand.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent Haier handsets. The plastic keypad has good placed keys, with the shrunken center keys for no apparent reason, make the phone harder to dial than necessary.Unfortunately, the keypad of the Haier PenPhone P6 emits excess noise, but on the bright side its keys have been comfortably spaced and sized. We're not entirely happy with the design of the navigational pad and its adjacent buttons, however, as distinguishing between these less easy than it ought to be.And last, but not least, a four-way navigation buttons centered below the display.

Features

In the WAN department, the PenPhone P6 boasts healthy support for Tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz, as well as SMS, and a range of applications such as Java MIDP 2.0, a voice recorder, FAX/Modem, all of which laptop and handheld users will be pleased to learn is a breeze to utilize either by means of and spacious phone book..

Performance

Audio quality on the PenPhone P6 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 540 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 2.5 hours talk time or 150 hours standby, which is quite low given the battery's theoretical capacity. Charge time is about 81 minutes.

Availability

The Haier PenPhone P6 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.

Conclusion

Haier's PenPhone P6 is yet another model in a range of phones from experienced users from Haier. A new compact design and a reduced sized battery - which avoids rendering a negative impact on battery life - ensures a thin and light phone which is ergonomically comfortable.
