Alcatel OneTouch 556 is announced in 2004
Design
Having gained fresh wind in its sails over the course of the past year or so, Alcatel has certainly made its mark on phone sale hit lists recently, the Alcatel OneTouch 556 is a very slender and compact handset at 106 x 47 x 18 mm and 89 grams. The 16 bit - color display which is a little milky, dim and uneven, as well as having lower resolution than usual. The display resolution 128 x 160 pixel ideal for small and smart phone.
The left side of the unit holds a spacious volume rocker. There is nice LEDs which notify users of new messages, active network and missed calls. This is not common for all Alcatel handsets and is not necessary to pick up and activate the device to see whether any alerts are waiting.
Ergonomics
The OneTouch 556 is comfortable to hold and lies well in ones hand. While the big display a numerical keypad placed on a small space offers appropriately-spaced keys and are not pleasantly comfortable in use.Sporting a simple and user friendly menu in style with other recent Alcatel handsets. The plastic keypad has good placed keys, with the shrunken center keys for no apparent reason, make the phone harder to dial than necessary.Unfortunately, the keypad of the Alcatel OneTouch 556 emits excess noise, but on the bright side its keys have been comfortably spaced and sized. We're not entirely happy with the design of the navigational pad and its adjacent buttons, however, as distinguishing between these less easy than it ought to be.And last, but not least, a four-way navigation buttons centered below the display.
Features
In the WAN department, the OneTouch 556 boasts healthy support for Tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz, as well as GPRS, SMS, and a range of applications such as WAP , Java MIDP 2.0, 40-channels polyphony, a voice recorder, FAX/Modem, all of which laptop and handheld users will be pleased to learn is a breeze to utilize either by means of infrared old wireless device,GPRS support is the fastest way to download files with your mobile, and spacious phone book..
Performance
Audio quality on the OneTouch 556 was crystal clear, and signal quality was good. The removable 89 mAh Li-ion battery is rated for 4 hours talk time or 150 hours standby, which is very good for battery's theoretical capacity.Charge time is about 13 minutes.
Availability
The Alcatel OneTouch 556 is now available throughout Europe in some language version.
Conclusion
Alcatel's OneTouch 556 is yet another model in a range of phones from experienced users from Alcatel. A new compact design and a reduced sized battery - which avoids rendering a negative impact on battery life - ensures a thin and light phone which is ergonomically comfortable. |
